Malo has a new line of margaritas on its menu just in time for Cinco de Mayo tomorrow. (Photo courtesy of Malo) Celebrate Cinco de Mayo With Margs at Malo It's Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, and that means plenty of tacos and margaritas. Malo, an upscale Latin American-themed restaurant downtown, has rolled out new margarita flavors, including Mezcal-A-Rita, Tamarind Ginger and Strawberry Thyme. Located in the former downtown fire station and the current headquarters of the Des Moines Social Club, Malo
is another hot spot in the George Formaro/Orchestrate Management empire. With pisco sours, mojitos and a daiquiri-style sip that pays homage to Hemingway’s time in Cuba, the drink menu celebrates the cocktail culture of Latin America. The food menu showcases Mexican favorites, including tacos made from fresh-pressed tortillas and slow-braised meats. Also find signature dishes ranging from the refined (Carnitas Clasico—a super tortilla made with Iowa pork) to the irreverent (Tot’chos—tots loaded up, nacho-style).
See more of dsm Magazine's Eat + Drink restaurant reviews here.
For a bigger Cinco de Mayo event, the Historic Valley Junction Foundation will hold its 14th annual Festival Cinco de Mayo from noon to 10 p.m. tomorrow in the 200 and 300 blocks of Fifth Street in West Des Mooines. There will be plenty of Mexican foods, artwork, live music, dancing and family activities.
