FSB plans to build a bank at 1600 North Park Road in Tiffin. GOOGLE MAPS
Farmers State Bank (FSB) has announced plans to build a new full-service bank in the Park Place and The Ders Group development in Tiffin on a 1.5 acre corner lot. The new bank will be located at 1600 North Park Road, directly across from a two-acre green space park which will serve as a community gathering place.

"We are extremely grateful to work with FSB and are beyond excited for them to have a new location at Park Place. This is a wonderful opportunity for FSB to join Tiffin, said to be the fastest growing city in Iowa, and the other surrounding communities" said Nick Andersen of The Ders Group that is building the 450-acre Park Place and City Center developments west of the new I-380 and Forevergreen Road exit.

Construction on the new facility will begin in spring of 2020, with a projected fall opening.

"Partnering with Scott, Nick and Alex Andersen to build a new bank in the Park Place development was an easy decision to make, and we're excited to be opening our first branch in Johnson County" Gene Neighbor, president and CEO of FSB, stated in a press release.

FSB has six locations including its main facility in Marion, along with offices at Collins Road Square, Edgewood Plaza Mall, Van Buren Village, Hiawatha and Alburnett.
Link2Collins Aerospace to support Royal Netherlands Air Force

Collins Aerospace has signed a letter of intent with the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) to provide readiness support for its F-35 and CH-47F fleets by providing local field service engineers, test capabilities and the first F-35 global pilot readiness center.

The activities will be performed at both Soesterberg and Woensdrecht Air Base, The Netherlands.

A highlight of the letter of intent is that it foresees a first-of-its-kind pilot readiness center that would provide on-location helmet fitting, flight simulators and altitude chamber training for F-35 pilots. In addition, Collins Aerospace intends to provide local field service engineers and test capabilities at the Woensdrecht Air Base to reduce turnaround time on CH-47Fs and maintain the RNLAF fleet's readiness levels. Collins Aerospace is the original equipment manufacturer for the avionics suite of the CH-47F Chinook, and components in the F-35 Helmet and flight simulator.

"Collins Aerospace and the RNLAF are working toward a common goal of supporting the new F-35 pilot readiness center and maximizing the availability of CH-47F avionics," said Craig Bries, vice president and general manager, Avionics Service and Support for Collins Aerospace, in a news release. "Our legacy as an avionics leader makes us the perfect partner to help ensure these fleets are ready at a moment's notice."

Work to establish the pilot readiness center, and to place local support personnel, is slated to begin in early 2020.

Several nurses and other staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics have filed a class action lawsuit against the Iowa Board of Regents and the hospital. The lawsuit claims employees were not paid overtime wages within the legally required time. The lawsuit cites one example from May 6, 2019, when a staff nurse worked three extra hours beyond her shift and was not paid for them until three months later in August. "UIHC knew this was happening and was apparently OK with it," said Cathy Glasson, president of Local 199 which represents 3,500 nurses and other health care professionals at UIHC. "This is not how a major research institution operates, and it certainly isn't how a hospital that wants to provide the best care possible should treat its employees, especially if it wants them to stick around."  Local 199 said in a release while they represent the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, the union did not initiate the suit. The lawsuit asks for attorney's fees and costs to be paid for and an unnamed amount of damages for the untimely payment of wages.

A man charged in the death of a woman hit in northeast Iowa by fragments from a homemade cannon has pleaded guilty. Delaware County District Court records say Max Fenton, 31, entered the written plea Friday to aggravated misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter. Court records say that if the judge accepts the plea at a hearing scheduled for Oct. 29, Mr. Fenton will be sentenced that day. The improvised cannon was made from the sawed-off barrel of a .50-caliber black powder rifle and was supposed to serve as a noisemaker. Authorities say the rear of the barrel "blew out" in Greeley the night of July 2, 2016, sending fragments toward where 55-year-old Lori Heims was sitting, hitting her in the head. She died later at a hospital.
