Gorgeous White Oak Dining Room Table Enhances This Craftsman-Style Great Room

Now the room is complete! This delightful couple hired Silent Rivers to build their dream kitchen with custom cabinets we created from hand-selected quartersawn white oak. As we were working on the kitchen cabinetry, the husband secretly asked us to create a dining room table for their new craftsman kitchen as a surprise for his wife!

The talented artisans in the Silent Rivers Woodshop love creating beautiful custom furniture! Building this piece of furniture gave Tom Bloxham and Alex Schlepphorst a unique opportunity to work with David, the homeowner, who is himself an accomplished woodworker. The result is this stunning dining table made entirely of quartersawn white oak. Because the table was a gift to his wife Lynn, it was a very special collaboration for our team.

Collaboration in Woodworking

David had planned for many years to build an heirloom dining table for his wife. After experiencing what it’s like to work with Silent Rivers on their kitchen remodel, he decided to ask us to tackle the dining room table for him. He was intimately involved in the project at every step. David hand selected each board that was used to construct the table and he stopped by the shop often to check progress and discuss the design.

With the client so involved, Alex and Tom were able to give the table many unique touches. They ensured that the armed dining chairs which David had purchased would fit easily and comfortably under the table. To coordinate with the kitchen, their table design incorporated elements used in the custom cabinetry, which was built using old-world joinery with modern fasteners hidden in the structure.

It’s so cliche to say that this beautiful table took my breath away, but literally that’s exactly what happened. We have spent the last several years planning our dream kitchen and dining room area.  So with those two projects complete, I had resigned myself to waiting a couple more years for the perfect table that I’ve always imagined my family sharing holidays around.

Having Silent Rivers design and build this table on the heels of designing and building our beautiful kitchen cabinetry was my wonderful husband’s idea to surprise me.  So I didn’t have to wait for even one holiday to pass without a totally completed entertaining area. The minute I saw this table set up and shined to perfection, I immediately knew it was another masterpiece with Tom and Alex’s creativity integrated throughout. They even incorporated many of the same design elements they had used in the kitchen.

Everyone we have worked with at Silent Rivers has taken the time to get to know us well.  They didn’t just care about our satisfaction with their work, but they cared about us as people. And the feeling is extremely mutual.”

~ Lynn, proud and grateful homeowner
