IOWA CITY — It’s unanimous: Caitlin Clark is a first-team All-American.
A sophomore guard at the University of Iowa, Clark was one of six players selected to the Associated Press women’s basketball first team, announced Wednesday morning.
Thirty voters comprise the AP panel.
A second-team All-American by AP last year as a freshman, Clark averaged 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.9 assists this season as the Hawkeyes (23-7) earned a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship, then followed it with a Big Ten tournament title.
The West Des Moines native led the nation in both scoring and assists.
Iowa will face Illinois State in the first round of the NCAA tournament at 3 p.m. Friday.
Clark was one of three unanimous first-team picks; South Carolina junior Aliyah Boston and Baylor senior NaLyssa Smith were the others.
Kentucky senior Nia Howard, Stanford junior Haley Jones and Michigan senior Naz Hillmon round out the first team.
Ashley Joens, a senior at Iowa State, is one of five members of the second team, joining Ayoka Lee of Kansas State, Annesah Morrow of DePaul, Khayla Pointer of LSU and Elissa Cunane of North Carolina State.
Joens averaged 20.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game en route to her third-consecutive unanimous all-Big 12 first-team selection. She also leads the team with a career-best 84 triples.
She had been an honorable-mention All-American as a sophomore and junior. The Iowa City native has helped Iowa State to a 26-6 record and has 2,307 career points.
The Cyclones face Texas-Arlington in an NCAA first-rounder at 9 p.m. Friday.
The third team consists of Elizabeth Kitley of Virginia Tech, Maddy Siegrist of Villanova, Veronica Burton of Northwestern, Cameron Brink of Stanford and Angel Reese of Maryland.
Iowa senior Monika Czinano is among the list of honorable-mention All-Americans. Czinano averages 21.1 points per game and leads the nation in field-goal accuracy (.678).
