Fellows: exploring the power of 10

Art Week Des Moines returns June 7-13, 2024 for a tenth year, continuing as a genre-blending celebration of local art and artists in the Des Moines metro anchored by neighborhood host sites. Art Week is open to all interested in showcasing their work and community members who love art. Group Creative Services coordinates this artist-led celebration and we hope you will join us this year.

Support is provided by Invest DSM, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority. 

Fellows framework

One way artists can be involved in Art Week Des Moines is through the fellowship program. Fellowships invest in local, community-focused artists leading the creation of new work in one of Art Week’s neighborhoods. The goal is to activate artists and build a sense of belonging for neighbors.

Artists are invited by Group Creative Services and Art Week stakeholders for an opportunity to be an Art Week fellow. Each fellowship is provided a $5,000 budget to develop and create community-engaged work in an Art Week designated neighborhood. Artists are encouraged to view these funds as seed money and to secure additional financial supporters of the project as needed.

Other ways to join Art Week Des Moines

Want to participate, but where unsure where to start? There are many ways to be involved…

• Artists can:

  • Organize and promote their own event/project (entries requested early 2024)

  • Ask to join an existing event

  • Collaborate on a community project

  • Pitch a partnership with a local business

• Businesses & Nonprofits can:

  • Invite your workplace/business to host and sponsor an artist. If you don’t know an artist, you can post your interest in hosting here or reach out directly.

• Everyone can:

  • Explore Art Week by discovering new-to-you artists and spaces. We’ll have a calendar with all the information leading up to Art Week 2024.

  • Financially support an artist’s project. Fiscal sponsors available for your support to become a tax deduction. Contact us if you want more information about connecting with a project.
