20th Year Anniversary Gala is SOLD OUT!

You’re invited to come and celebrate Tallgrass Theatre Company as we kick off our 20th year. Join us for a one night only, gala performance on Friday, May 24th at 7:30 PM as we celebrate the past, present, and future of Tallgrass. 

Doors open at 6:00 PM for a cocktail hour with heavy hors d’oeuvres from Tangerine Food Co. and cash bar. Gala is hosted by Max & Karen Schaeffer featuring raffle items, a live auction walk-on role in Camelot, and featuring the talents of:

The Des Moines Community Orchestra will accompany our talented cast.

CAMELOT is presented with special arrangement with Musical Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performances materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com. Original Production Directed and Staged by Moss Hart. Based on The Once and Future King by T.H. White.

Tickets: This concert event is a free-will donation, with $25 suggested donation amount. Audience members are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, picnic items.

It’s Only A Play – By Terrence McNally

It’s the opening night of The Golden Egg on Broadway, and the wealthy producer Julia Budder is throwing a lavish party in her lavish Manhattan townhouse. Downstairs the celebrities are pouring in, but the real action is upstairs in the bedroom, where a group of insiders have staked themselves out to await the reviews but don’t worry: This play is sure to be the hit they have all been hoping for.

Seedling’s Childrens Theatre at Tallgrass Theatre presents The Children’s Literature Association named this “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years,” and Joseph Robinette, working with the advice of E.B. White, has created a play that captures this work in a thrilling and utterly practical theatrical presentation. All the enchanting characters are here: This is a beautiful, knowing play about friendship that will give your audience an evening of enchantment.

The popular singing group of friends returns to TTC. The A-Sisters join us for another Holiday celebration with popular Christmas songs from way back when. Don’t miss this Holiday Classic that is sure to become your family’s favorite tradition.

Ripcord – by David Lindsay Abaire

Presented: January 31st through February 16th, 2025

A sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, so when the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn, she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. A seemingly harmless bet between the old women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden.

The 10th Annual Sarah Frank & Jack Balcombe Dream Project Presents The Emerald Earring – by Justin Nostrala

Directed by Jennifer Nostrala
Presented: April 18th through May 4th, 2025

Tallgrass presents the World Premiere of this play. A dark comedy was written by local playwright Justin Nostrala. The story is about a woman’s struggle between trying to support the institution of marriage and family, while reckoning with her beliefs about abortion.

Ticket FAQ
  • I ordered tickets online but didn’t receive a confirmation email.
    • Sometimes our system has difficulties with certain email providers, if you are charged and didn’t receive your receipt/ticket – email tickets@tallgrasstheatre.org and it can be resent
  • Do I need to bring my ticket with me?
    • You don’t need to print off tickets at home. When you arrive at our venue you will check in with Box Office staff, so all we need is your name at the door.
  • Where can I park?
    • We have parking at our facility at 2019 Grand Ave. Suite 100, West Des Moines
  • When do doors open?
    • Lobby doors open one hour before the production begins and auditorium doors open 30 minutes before the production begins for seating.
Season Pass Holder FAQ

When you purchase a Season Pass with Tallgrass Theatre Company, you will be emailed a confirmation receipt that contains Coupon Codes to enter to be used for our events that season.

  1. Select the show or event from our list above
  2. Select the date of the show you would like to attend. 
  3. Select the number of tickets you would like to order, click Continue.  
  4. Enter the Coupon Code(s) listed in your confirmation email, click Apply. You will see the total amount change to zero.
  5. Enter your Name, Email, Phone, and other information, click Confirm Order.
