Grab a Mug—and Your Lederhosen

One of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in Iowa is coming to the Historic Court District this weekend, and promoters say this will be the biggest version yet. Des Moines' Oktoberfest runs from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. today and tomorrow.

There will be a variety of events happening around downtown, including live music, dancing and beer-drinking contests. The traditional tapping of the keg takes place at 3 p.m. today at the Leinenkugel Main Stage. Tickets are $10 at entry.

Aretha Lives On

Blues and jazz artist Tina Haase Findlay's show, "Aretha Lives On," highlights the great career of the late Aretha Franklin (pictured). Findlay will perform two shows today, at 7 and 9 p.m., at Noce. General admission is $20.

A Night of Chicago Jazz

Ramsey Lewis and Ann Hampton Callaway headline "A Night of Chicago Jazz" at 7:30 p.m. today at Hoyt Sherman Place. Lewis' career as a jazz performer spans more than a half-century. Hampton Callaway was named  2014's Performer of the Year by Broadwayworld.com. Learn more

New Exhibition at Art Center

The Des Moines Art Center opened a new exhibition today by German artist Neo Raunch called "Aus Dem Boden / From the Floor." The exhibition marks the first time Raunch's work has been shown in the United States. The exhibit runs through Jan. 6, 2019. Learn more

 
Luminarium—Albesia

The Luminarium, a large, inflatable labyrinth adventure, is at Cowles Commons from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and through Oct. 7. The new layout, named Albesia, offers 27 egg-shaped domes joined together in a rectangular grid. Learn more
