A Taste of Iowa Culture

Sample cuisine and cocktails from across Iowa at the annual Celebrate Iowa Gala, 7-11 p.m. today at the Scottish Rite Consistory. The event, hosted by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, also showcases a lineup of entertainment by Iowa artists, musicians and other performers.

Iowa-made hors d'oeuvres, desserts, beer, wine, craft cocktails and a coffee cart will be available throughout the evening. The program starts at 7:45 p.m., with brief remarks by Gov. Kim Reyonlds, Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg, Chris Kramer, who is the director of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and Ed Wilson, WHO-TV chief meteorologist. Performances by the Maytags and Back2Life Des Moines cap off the night.

Tickets are $125 or $100 for young professionals under 40, available at the door (online registration has closed).

'The Nutcracker'

'Bandstand'

The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "Bandstand" is making a two-day stop at the Des Moines Civic Center this weekend. The show tells the story of six soldiers who return home from World War II and use music to adapt to a changed world. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. today and 2 p.m. tomorrow. Tickets are $25-$115. Iowa Wolves

The Iowa Wolves take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Wells Fargo Arena. There are several featured promotions, including First Responders Night, $2 beers, and a Chick-fil-A Meal Deal ticket package. Ticket prices range from $18 to $36. Learn more



'A Christmas Carol'

Every year, Iowa Stage Theatre Company presents "A Christmas Carol." To mark the move to Stoner Theater as its primary venue, the organization has created a new version of the classic holiday tale. The show debuts at 7:30 tonight and runs through the weekend. Learn more
